Hydrostatic Profile Gauge bench tests
1. Introduction
If you suspect your HPG is drifting, the reference readings are inaccurate, the pressure regularly drops or the calibration is out. Please perform the following simple bench test. This will enable itmsoil Support staff to get a greater understanding on how the unit is functioning. Once the tests are complete please submit the hpg results and manual log with a new support ticket explaining the concerns or issues you have.
For help on setting up the HPG sites on the PDA please see MAN203 - Digital Hydrostatic Profile Gauge
Please setup a new site on the PDA, assign the site character code as “TEST1” and site name as “TEST1”. Please create three runs within this site, call these Run1, Run2 and Run3. Please set each of these runs to have a tube length of 5 and a start distance of 5. Once the site is setup please proceed to take readings with the HPG system
2. Test One
On completion of setting up the test site and three runs, load the test site and commence taking readings on Run1.
Setup the run to have 1 reference point and a read interval of 1
Position the HPG reel onto a desk/table approximately 1m in height from ground level.
Pull out enough of the tubing so that you can comfortably transfer the
probe form the desk to the floor and allow it to rest in the same
position each time.
Commence taking readings on Run1 as you normally would do on site.
Position the probe on the table and take your ref reading. Once complete
do not move the probe and record the first reading.
Now position the probe on the floor, allow the system to stabilise, then take the second reading.
Move the probe back up to the table trying not to lift the probe higher
than the level of the table and take the third reading.
Repeat the previous two steps until the end of the run.
For the final reference make sure the probe is on the desk as in step 5
Once Run1 is complete, record the distance from the floor to the table in cm.
Please keep a manual log of the position of the probe on each recording,
ie Ref1 = Table, First reading = Table, Second reading = Floor ect.
Please supply the manual log, the hpg file created for Run1 and the
distance measured in cm to itmsoil Instruments.
3. Test Two
- Commence taking readings on Run2.
- Setup the run to have 1 reference point and a read interval of 1.
- Position the HPG reel onto a desk/table approximately 1m in height from ground level.
-
Pull out enough of the tubing so that you can comfortably transfer the
probe form the desk to the floor and to a height of approximately 2m
from ground level.
-
Commence taking readings on Run2 as you normally would do on site.
Position the probe on the table and take your ref reading. Once complete
do not move the probe and record the first reading.
- Now position the probe on the floor, allow the system to stabilise, then take the second reading.
-
Move the probe back up to the table this time lifting the probe to
approximately 2m in height, then lowering onto the table, take another
reading.
- Repeat the previous two steps until the end of the run.
- For the final reference make sure the probe is on the desk as in step 5.
-
Please keep a manual log of the position of the probe on each recording,
ie Ref1 = Table, First reading = Table, Second reading = Floor ect.
Please supply the manual log and the hpg file created for Run2 to
itmsoil Instruments.
4. Test Three
-
Unreel approximately 10m of cable and coil into a manageable hoop, you
will be transferring this hoop from the desk to the floor so make sure
you have enough slack to complete the process.
- Position the HPG reel onto a desk/table approximately 1m in height from ground level.
- Position the 10m coil of cable next to the reel on the table.
-
Position the probe next to the reel but in a fixed state, either
weighted to the desk or aided by another college to keep the probe in a
fixed position. If weighting the probe do not use excessive weight which
may damage it.
-
Commence taking readings on Run3 as you normally would do on site. Make
sure the probe is kept in its fixed position for each reading interval.
- Record the reference reading and first reading with the reel, the 10m coil and the probe all on the desk.
- Move the 10m coil to the floor allow the system to stabilise and record the second reading.
- Move the 10m coil back to the desk allow to stabilise and record the third reading.
- Repeat the previous two steps until the run is complete.
-
Please keep a manual log of the position of the probe on each recording,
ie Ref1 = Table, First reading = Table, Second reading = Floor ect.
Please supply the manual log and the hpg file created for Run3 to
itmsoil Instruments.
